Barrington Area Arts Council (BAAC) is proud to present the photography of Barrington resident Kelly Stachura at BAAC's Gallery at the Garlands now through Feb. 28. The Exhibit, entitled The Domestic Series, is a collection of colored photographs capturing female dancers as they dance about in kitchens, laundry rooms, and other areas of the home. BAAC's Gallery at the Garlands is located at 1000 Garlands Lane in Barrington.

Stachura's photographs are crisp and colorful, and very original. How did she come up with the idea? "I was a dancer for many years. One day when I was vacuuming, my leg flipped up in the air [like a dancer's] and it gave me an idea. What other things do dancers do around the home?" Stachura says. The Domestic Series captures female dancers as they study on the living room floor, put dishes into a dishwasher, and pull laundry from a dryer, to name a few of the many activities captured.

"Kelly has a wonderful eye," says Corryn Hall-Lee, BAAC's executive director. "I have never seen pictures like this, and I am very happy that BAAC could bring the exhibit to a larger audience." The photographs in this series blend the passion of artistry (the art of dance) with everyday activities (studying and cleaning). The result is a very interesting look at what happens when the mundane meets the passion. "This exhibit, in a way, shows the duality of women; the juxtapositions of the different roles we play in our lives. It's an amazing concept," Hall-Lee adds.
